01 WATER + FLOAT

Countercurrent.

You move the float.
The water moves it back.

Hold inside the basin.
Move gently. Let go.

COUNTERCURRENT / HOW IT WORKS

Make a wave.
Watch it come back.

Push the float down and it moves the water. The changing water height then pushes back on the float. Try switching the connection off, resetting, and pressing again. Reset clears any waves already moving.

FLOAT⇄WATEROne shared coupling energy · two reciprocal forces

Height: blue −5 mm → pale zero → rust +5 mm. Colors saturate beyond that range; measurements do not. Flow: red is east/west speed, green is north/south speed (absolute components).

What’s simulated

The float moves up and down while a shallow-water model carries the waves. Your drag guides it across the basin. Splashing, breaking waves and full hull motion are outside this model.

Damping settles the water; your hand adds energy. The lighting exaggerates surface slopes ×3 so small ripples are easier to see. The geometry and measurements keep their original scale. The model notes explain the equations, numerical checks and approximations.
